What's the reason to get cramps before starting the period?

Whenever I start my period, I always get the cramps before I even start. What’s the reason? Then when it happens, then the cramps are mild. Just wondering.

Answer #1

I’m sorry but American education must really suck if you dont learn this in high school…

The uterine lining starts shedding and it sometimes takes a day or two before the period even starts (which is why the cramping)… so generally the cramps are at their worst before your period even hits…

so, when you get your period, basically the lining of your uterus is shedding, to expose fresh healthy tissue that would be nurturing to a fertilized embryo.

in order for this shedding to take place you will experience muscle contractions, thus the cramps.

Answer #3

because when the lining of your uterus sheds, you push it out with a muscle you usually don’t use during the rest of the month, so you get cramps just as you would stitches on your side if you run without stretching. If it hurts too bad, you can take pamprin or something but I wouldn’t recommend it if you can handle your cramps.
