Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees, Street Spirit, Climbing up walls, Exit Music (for a film) there's a whole load of Radiohead music that has a downbeat tone.
Morrissey/The Smiths have some very downbeat stuff, you should investigate them.
And for a bit of gloomy electronic music there's a load of Depeche Mode stuff you listen too, like Sister of Night from the Ultra album for example.
Breakfast at Sweethearts and Just How Many Times by Cold Chisel aren't too happy. Neither is Walk On by Jimmy Barnes or No Second Prize by Jimmy Barnes and my dear, depressing songs usually make you more upset so maybe listen to happier music. Have fun! :D
