Well I don’t think it would be particularly weird (though perhaps a little unusual), but if your mother is aware that her 18 year old daughter has a boyfriend she almost certainly assumes you engage in “adult behaviour” even if she assumes you do not yet have full sex together.

Your mother should not get mad if you are given a perfectly legal present, though I imagine that she would naturally assume that you are using it if she knows you have got one. That knowledge could prove embarrassing to both of you.

I suppose you could tell your Mum that you know a girl who got a sex toy as a birthday present from her boyfriend and her mother got mad about it. Then you can see what her reaction to that is. If her reaction is not particularly forthcoming, you could perhaps then be a bit more direct and ask:

“… What would you think if I was unwrapping my Christmas presents and somebody had given me a sex toy ? …”

In my opinion, you are still so young, and why need a sex toy? There should be a shock for your mother if she sees one. Not every mother would react the same way tough, but I would be mad if my found my girl’s boy friend gave her such a thing.

I completely disagree with Sri on this. It is not weird for one partner to buy another partner a sex toy. If you feel old enough and are mature enough emotionally then sex toys are a great way to aid your sex life. Both to enhance and in a lot of cases, rescue a sex situation. Speak to your boyfriend and make sure he knows not to give you such a present in front of your mother. Not because it’s wrong, but because it’s your private life and you have no reason to share such details with your mother. I have kids and i will make sure as they get older they are educated that their bodies are not wrong and just so long as they respect themselves and are happy with who they are and who they’re with then that’s all that matters really. Life is hard enough.
