Should I wait until I get out of college to find my first job?

Where I live, jobs aren’t easy to get. I’m starting to think I should just wait until I graduate college to get my first job. Should I wait? And have other people done the same thing?

Answer #1

What do you mean by ‘’first job’’? You’re going to need a steady income to pay for your college to begin with.. right?

Answer #2

I’m heading into the National Guard for college.

Answer #3

No.

Get a job now. That way you “understand” the working environment, gain a sense of responsibility and yup, afford that phone that has been denied to you.

When you get out of college, you’ll already have learned the ropes and things will be easy.

Answer #4

Listen to Ericson. :P

Answer #5

It’s seriously hard to get a job out here. I’m still waiting for CVS to get back at me after 3 months of waiting.

Answer #6

It is up to you. I honestly have been luckier than most, I have managed to find jobs and internships without ever interviewing (they just kinda fell into my lap). Maybe you get lucky and someone comes up to you and offers you a job. But I wouldnt count on it. Start looking… you never know what you’ll come across. If you dont like the job, you dont have to take it. But any and all experience will be helpful. And hey, maybe you’ll find something great. Looking cant hurt.

Answer #7

I’ve been looking for 5 months now, and NO luck so far.

Answer #8

People search for years without looking. 5 months isnt that bad. It doesnt hurt to keep looking. But I think you need to start looking differently. The top most way people find jobs is through networking. Tell people you’re looking for a job. I have managed to find jobs by volunteering. I’ve got two jobs and had an offer for a third through volunteering. People see how good you are, they go to you first when trying to fill open positions. The majority of jobs are never listed. If you are serious about job hunting, I suggest reading ‘What Color is Your Parachute’. It will help you in your search.

You call THEM

Answer #10

I started out studying only and half way through I started working and and studying together.

If you only study its a lot of fun and actually a very relaxed time, although most people don’t appreciate it.

Working and studying is very hard work. But as Ericson said, its great to get experience.

But make the choice based on your personal circumstances. I needed the money for study fees.

Answer #11

You can look for internships too. Don’t limit yourself. Any experience is good.

Answer #12

I would have tu agree with Ericson Smith.

Answer #13

I would have tu agree with Ericson Smith.

Answer #14

This should be your choice. I worked part time during my studies and it really improved my people, telephone and computer skills, something which is vital in any work place. I suggest that at least finding something part time, that is until your studies become to hectic, then you can quit and focus on your studies.

Answer #15

Without wanting to sound virtuos, I’ve been working as an administrator since leaving school (or shortly after) and it really is rewarding to be able to earn your own money, and but things with your own money. It also gives a great sense of responsibility. Whilst I am working, I have to pay towards my upkeep in the house, plus things paying towards the internet. So that is helping me to budget each month, and makes me value what I’m earning more. I don’t know how much longer my contract will last (might only be until christmas, but I will certainly aim to keep on working at least part-time, with going to college still an option. All I can say is keep appying for jobs, because the rewards will be worth it, even if means just being able to buy small things for yourself. You’ll get great satisfaction that it came from your own pocket.

Answer #16

i suggest getting a job before because like my mom says i hahve to pay for my own college also that way you can have the experience of having a job so i suggest getting one before just in case of an emergency. :)
