how do I make my dog sit and stay still
Ditto to Harley on the using your hand in the "Stop" position...be sure when you first begin to train, that you put hand close to his face...and say "Stay". Don't expect to just walk away...you train dogs in "building blocks". Start out by only moving 2 feet or so, then give a lot of praise for staying...move 3 feet away...over the course of a week, build up to 8 or 10 feet away. IF he breaks the stay...go back and put him in the exact spot he was in and try again. Never train for longer than 15 minutes at one time. You can do it several times a day, just not for long periods...
And remember PRAISE...PRAISE...PRAISE.
p
put a treat in your hand, place it in front of the dogs nose and slowly move your hand up over the dogs head, (the hand with the treat) at the same time say "sit" when the dog back up it will sit. when the dog sits give the treat, repeat this.
for stay PUT your hand up in the "stop" position. Tell the dog to stay, when the dog does what you want, give treat. Don't expect the dog to stay to long at first, reward after just a few seconds of stay, then each day make it longer and longer
Don't ever push down on a dogs back, you can cause them injury
im not sure about staying still... but to teach your dog to sit, get a treat in your fist and your dog will smell it and try to get it after a few seconds push its lower back down while saying sit (not too forcefully) until it ends up sitting, then praise it and give it the treat keep doing this until it gets the idea and sits down on his own when you tell him to sit :D
Hope this helps :)
train him. get doggy treats and train by puttng the dugs butt into a sitting position when you say "sit" and try it over and over. when you feel like he needsa reward, guve him the treat
