at my uni, you are more than welcome to not work with animals if you are not comfortable with it. They stress that you will find it more difficult to learn the concepts if you dont participate, but they try to give you extra help to compensate. Im not sure what its like in schools in the US, but you shouldnt be made to do it. I didnt used to be comfortable with it, but I always did it because it was a really good way to learn, and as I progressed in my degree we shifted from animal to human dissection. A lot of people ask me how I am able to do animal and human dissections. The only way I can do it is to look at it scientifically, keeping in mind everything I have been taught. Looking at it like that, it becomes quite fascinating to actually see the anatomy of an organism, rather than just looking at 2D images. If you think of it like that, you may find it easier to get through. But if you are dead set against it, I would talk to your teacher and see what can be done
They cant "make" you disect an animal. You have a choice as to whether to do the assignment or not. Talk to your teacher and see if there is another option...most school will give you a fail for the assignment and theres nothing you can do about it, we had a nice teacher that has a computer program where you disected the animal on the computer screen instead of real life for those students who were uncomfortable doing it. In the end..its your schools policy and teachers choice as too wheather to fail you for not doing it or not.
Usaully when a teacher will do an assignment that involves blood or mature content like dissection they will tell class ahead of time. After class lets out tell the teacher you can not do it, you will get nauseas and pass out. usauly they will give you an alternative assignment if that is the case. if they dont. dont do it. take the failing grade and try explaining it to your parents, maybe they will be on your side.
Check the laws regarding dissecting animals in schools... At my school we never dissected anything b/c the teacher (not just one but all the science teachers said) that there was some law against it. And I know the difference between a school board decision and a law, and they said law not school board decision. I know that someone is going to say something about my answer...
KUDOS to all people who answered in one way or another that dissecting is WRONG!!! :o)
To the rest...I feel sorry for, and to learn a little morality, compassion and humbleness, I sugest they read very carefully these 2 links:

At my school, when we dissected frogs and cats. You were required to at least watch what dissection. You didn't have to actually dissect it. Every teacher is different though. Talk to yur teacher about it! And good luck. (:
Tell them you REFUSE to do the assignment. I did. Mr. Durance(my 10th grade science teacher) told me I had to touch the legs and he'd give me a 100. I told him that I would puke if i had to disect the poor little froggy
Weeellll..... you can ask to be an observor. like to watch the dissection happen. i dont know how your school works, but i mean theyre already dead its not like ur killing them
Hmm, well you could discuss it with your teacher. Have your parent discuss it with the teacher. Be out sick for that class. Be out sick for the day.
You can refuse to do the assignment, but you won't earn the grades. Dissection is part of the science curriculum.
Well they may not say there isnt a subtitute but there is at least i think hmm
if ur not confortable then u dotn jhave to do it tho u haev to tell them!
Buit i like animals i I can NOT STAND looking at ded animals :'(
Get your mom to write you a note, then its all 'legal'.
That doesn't change my answer.
