What are you supposed to do when you're on your period?

Everytime I get my period, I feel extremely lazy and never feel like doing anything. Is it good to exercise while on your period? I never do because I get really bad cramps and it hurts to do anything active. My periods are also a little heavy. I'm also a gymnast and I just can't seem to do ANYTHING when I'm on my period. It feels really uncomfortable. But anyways, what are things that I SHOULD be doing. Are there any tips I can use to make my menstrual cramps go away. Is there any way I can make it so my period doesn't distract me from extracurricular activities?
