Is there a specific science for the study of stomachs?

My friend has these stomach problems, and he said it’s been hurting almost every night for about two and a half years, and I want to try to help him.

There are clinics and doctors specialized in stomach and digestion issues. They are called gastroenterologists.

But that’s a specialization field of internal medicine, not an independent field of science.
