Sleep and weight loss

Hi, so I'd like to loose a few pounds just like the next person. One thing I'm curious about though is how much sleep affects metabolism and general health. I'm taking a lot of really hard courses at school and get very little sleep. (like 5 hours max) I know its bad for me, but can someone elaborate on just how bad it is, how it affects my endeavor to loose weight, and maybe give me some tips on how I can squeeze in some more sleep?
