Should the UN be disbanded?

Thats the question whats your answer?

Answer #1

It disappoints me when I see Americans say they want the US to leave the UN, or abolish it. The US was the driving force behind creation of the UN, and many of the other international bodies that have made the global economy possible. It was a great idea, and is a very important project for the US, or at least should be. In the past, when the US wanted something done in the world, Washington would usually work first through the UN. Other countries, even Russia and China, were much more willing to side with the US on issues if they felt the US was working under international law. Acting unilaterally has rarely gained us any friends, and we need friends.

The UN has also made great progress in addressing the needs of the planet’s poorest people, and tackling a number of global problems. Yes, it has become a bureaucracy in many ways, and can be corrupt and ineffective. But getting rid of it is a ridiculous idea. The benefits far outweigh the detriments.
