Should I put myself out for people who don't return it?

My friends all have very busy lives, but not in a sense that I would like. My friends blow me of to get high and drink too goddamn much. I remember what we all used to be like and we used to be happy and thats what keeps me there. Without them I would be alone, but should I sacrifice quality for quantity?

I say, Yes. How old are you, because that affects the answer. When I was 19, I saw a dramatic change in my friendship. People change more between 18-22 than any other stage in life.

Once I got into my 20s, some of those friends grew close again. At certain stages of life, people need to explore, change and grow, and that might include drinking and smoking for a while. Most of them will outgrow that.
