Why is it that I can remember lyrics to so many songs but nothing about school work?

Maybe because you are more focused on fun, than you are on your education?

Song lyrics have music that goes with them (obviously) so that makes it easier to remember the words. Also, lyrics rhyme, so that too makes it easier to remember. As a suggestion, turn you studying into a song, and maybe that will be easier to remember than plain old boring facts.

Cause you’re more interested in the song than in school work haha & people tend to put more effort into what they are more interested in knowing, rather than what they need to know. I have the same problem :/

Because the song have a rythem to it, and have this beat that lets you have fun and dance or something while you sing along, and you can play them over and over also. With school, you simply learn, take notes, meaby you have a different way of learning or something.

You can listen to songs over and over and sing along, thus meaning you learn through repetition, wheras this effect does not occur with reading quite so well.

The rhythm also helps, as others have said.

You are obviosuly studying in ways that are not as effective for you. If you learn songs well then maybe you learn aurally so should make mnemonics you can repeat to yourself (for example, you can remember the order of the planets by using a simple sentence like Many Vile Earthlings Munch Jam Sandwiches Under Newspaper Piles- it is funny and sticks in your mind so then you can remember that Many stands for Mercury, Vile for Venus and so on, as the first letters match). This as well as normal repetition or making songs for yourself will help you learn facts for school.

Try other methods as well, such as making mind maps to link all your information together or making some revision cards. For a language subject you could write the Spanish word for flower on one card and the English version on another and make lots of different ones. The gets your friends around and shuffle them all up and lay them down on the table. Play pairs, so each person gets to turn over two cards and if they are the ones that go together they can keep them, if not they have to go face down again. The person with the most pairs at the end wins. Little games can help making learning more fun and more likely to stick in your head.

Just approach schoolwork in a new way and you may be able to learn it just as easily as a song.

it’s because you listen to what you’re interested in and you’re not being forced to listen to it unlike school work. it’s the same way for me. :)
