neighbor being abused? help I don't know what to do!!!

so I was at my sister’s old house that we still own and I was outside just thinking and from the house next door where a middle eastern family lives I could here yelling. the son georgie was yelling from the bathroom at his dad who was yelling in their language. I couldn’t catch most of it but georgie was yelling either “you got it in my eye, OR you hit me in the eye”. I also heard the dad yell “you don’t listen” and “come here now!” and he sounded ANGRY. I also heard some smacking sound and I don’t know what it was, but was he spanking him?? I’m really not sure and I only go over so much. I’m really worried for georgie and am scared for his well being. what should I do? I was thinking of going over and asking to see georgie after I heard this but I got too scared…

Child Abuse and Neglect

How ChildLine Protects Children

The Mission of ChildLine is to accept calls from the public and professional sources 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Cultural sensitivity and courteous demeanor will be displayed at all times to all callers. ChildLine will provide information, counseling, and referral services for families and children to ensure the safety and well being of the children of Pennsylvania.

Reporting Child Abuse, Call 800-932-0313:

The Intake Unit (800-932-0313) is available 24 hours to receive reports of suspected child abuse. Professionals who come into contact with children are required to report when they have reasonable cause to suspect that a child under the care, supervision, guidance or training of that person or of their agency, institution or organization is an abused child. In addition, any person may report suspected abuse, even if the individual wishes to remain anonymous.

Each call is answered by a trained intake specialist who will interview the caller to determine the most appropriate course of action. Actions include forwarding a report to a county agency for investigation as child abuse or general protective services, forwarding a report directly to law enforcement officials or refer the caller to local social services (such as counseling, financial aid and legal services).

If you have any concerns or questions about how your call was handled, please contact one of our Intake Managers or the Director at 717-783-1964.

Call the police immediately. Call social services and report suspected child abuse. Call them several times to be sure the family is investigated.

Children die in their own homes, killed by abuse that is accepted and which escalates to lethal proportions.

The emotional damage to a child is horrific and forever.

Social services will not reveal your identity. You can make sure the abuser knows he or she is being observed. Lies about “accidents” will not wash when there’s a paper trail of reported susptected abuse.

If you are afraid to report, think how terrified and helpless the child is.

Answer #3

People are getting caught up in semantics here. A spank might sound harmless, but if you can hear it from the house next door, it is not just a ‘spank’. It is a slap or punch, and it is child abuse. Call CPS if you are really concerned. They will not tell them it was you who complained.

Answer #4

*spanking isn’t child abuse…

it is physical assault… if an adult hits another adult it is assault… if an adult hits a child it is assault.

Answer #6

Well, if his dad is spanking him, its considered child abusement. You should go over there and see if he’s alright, and if he’s not, call the cops.
