Is masturbation a sin from a christian perspective?

Answer #1

Although some Christian Denominations consider it a sin (e.g. Roman Catholics) some do not actually teach that it is a sin.

I am not aware of any Christian Denomination that actually promotes masturbation as being a good / healthy thing to do. However, some National Governments within ostensibly Christian Countries do.

Answer #2

Catholics|Christians think it is a sin..and that girls and guys should stay celibate until marriage. And in marriage should only be engaged in sexual activities when trying for a child. But you do what you want.Nobody listens to that stuff really.Over half of today’s population engages in some kind of sexual stuff before marriage or with protection…You do this stuff when you feel it’s right or when your ready. But don’t feeel bad if you do it before marriage…the church says no..but do they really know what god truly believes?no,at least they don’t in my opinion.lots of stuff is made up in religion.again my opinion.

Answer #3

Some christians believe that masturbating is sin because it falls into the category of sex (solo sex)

Answer #4

The Catholic church doesn’t believe people should only engage in sexual activities when you’re trying to get pregnant. They just don’t believe in contraceptives. They put out an ovulation calendar to help women keep track of their cycles, so they know when it’s more safe to gave sex, and when they’re more likely to have a child. That way, they don’t need contraceptives, and they can still be careful about getting pregnant.

Answer #5

Im a Christian-Church of Christ and although we dont preach against it, we dont spread it around either. What a person does with their body is private.

Answer #6

Well, i think it depends. If you masturbate without imagining having sex with another person (YES that is possible….some claim to do it) then I see no problems; but if you masturbate and fantasize…it could be viewed as lust which is basically a strong desire for something. lust is a sin so therefore in a sense you are sinning.
