what is the main ingredient in toothpaste?

i think its flouride but im not sure……

I’m not sure what it is, but I can tell you it isn’t flouride, some toothpastes have flouride and some don’t.

I am very careful to avoid toothpastes that have Fluoride in them because the flouride in the water is already at levels that can cause fluoridation and I really don’t want to make it any more likely.

Toothpaste is a complex mixture。It’s usally made of friction agent(such as calcium carbonate ,calcium hydrophosphate),moisturizing agent(such as polyethylene glycol),surface active agent (such as sodium lauryl fulfate,2 - sodium para-button),thickening agent(such as carboxymethyl cellulose,antlers pectin),sweetening agents (such as propanetriol,cyclohexylamine sodium ),antiseptic agent (such as potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate ),activity additives ( such as chlorophyl ,fluoride ) and colorants ,flavor.

The major ingredient is a surfactant, just the same as any cleaning or hygiene product. Most will also contain fluoride to prevent tooth decay.
