Is my friend pregnant?

my friend had unprotected sex and told us two/three days later. shes only 16 and we took her to a clinic to make her take the morning after pill. another friend pretended it was for her because we were still talking her into taking it. when she finally did, she was told there was still an 11% chance she is pregnant. today the other friend gave her the leaflets the doctor had given her and we began to find all the place swapping funny until we read the leaflet and it said there was a 48% chance she can be pregnant because the pill was taken 62hrs after sex.

so now we’re all really confused and my friend is, understandably, beginning to get scared. what actually are the chances? x

she’d rather not know? does she think if she doesnt know it will disappear and she wont have to deal with it? she could get really sick… it’s a lot to deal with, and it is embarrassing being in front of a doctor, and things are overwhelming, but it is important that she see someone. Dont push it, but definitely talk to her in a week or so when she’s maybe calmed down a bit.

we’ve tried to take her to a clinic to be checked for STDs but she wont go. she wouldn’t take a test either because she said she’d rather not know. tbh, I think she’s really scared by the whole thing she would normally use protection but they were both drunk and had sex in her back garden. her mum walked in (or OUT) on them. must have been embarrassing. her mum gave her a lecture about protection and she said she’d used it.

As ichibanarky said some girls are more fertile…I got pregnant 3 times, the first I was on the pill, the second I was on the patch and the third while using condoms and spermicide…sometimes things happen that you can’t control.

As for her chances…the morning after pill works the best if taken within 24 hours. If she had sex in the middle of her cycle then she probably has a higher chance of getting pregnant (although all girls are different). The best thing she can do is calm down and take a pregnancy test if she misses her period…but getting stressed about it before that isn’t going to help her.

Answer #4

The chance of being pregnant from a one time encounter and using the morning after pill isnt nearly 1 in 2… maybe the effectiveness goes down by 50%, but the overall chance isnt really that high (make no mistake, even if the odds are 1 in 100, she could be that 1)… so just get her to calm down, STOP having unprotected sex, and in a couple of weeks if she hasnt gotten her period she should take a test. Also, she honestly should go get checked out for STDs… a pregnancy could be the least of her worries

Answer #5

Anytime you have unprotected sex, you have a chance of getting pregnant. Some girls are more fertile than others and get pregnant much easier. The morning after pill is not always effective.

We don’t know how fertile your friend is, nor do we know all the details, so all we can say is - if she had unprotected sex, there’s a chance she could be pregnant.
