Is it normal for your guinea pig to be very timid and jumpy when you first get one? I got him on saturday and he is very jumpy. When ever you enter the room he legs it and hides in his bed. When you stroke him he seems tense for a few seconds. He also doesn't let me pick him up so I don't but I need to to take him out of his cage and have a run around the room...
umm yes this is normal...our old guinea pigs did the same thing when we first got them...hes probaly just a bit scared...but excited 2 see a new person... if he doesnt let you pick him up...it just means that hes shy and not used 2 you yet...but soon he will get used 2 u...try getting him a mate 2 play with ...does he bite or anything when you try picking him up...?
yes, when we 1st got our GP, they freked out all the time. just hand feed them veggies each day. theyll learn 2 trust you. also let them sniff you before you pet them. dont try to pick them up @ first, just let him get used to being pet.
Yes that is normal.. guinea pigs are wild animals, and they have a lot of enemies =) They always hide and act paranoid. Just hold and "play" with him regularly.
no, he doesn't bite. He just runs like a looney. he also sometimes panics and moves so quickly that he runs into things. :/
