Is it illegal to have a ferret shipped to me?

if there illegal in your country then shipping them over would be illegal yes and most likley the boat they come on would have other illegal animals and things so its probably best not to get involved with that maybe try to find a freind ir someone around your area who breeds them

Why don’t you call your local Conservation Office and they should clear this up for you. Don’t break the law or work with a person that will.

But why not get a ferret from the Pet Store and get it with a Health Guarantee. This way you will have a source for it’s food and supplies, get the proper cage and litter box for it and PLEASE get a book on how to take care of and the health of your Ferret. The Book is important. Ferrets are smart and fun animals that need to be kept clean. If they are kept clean the should not have an odor. So learn the proper care of your pet.

If any company shipped a ferret to California and got caught doing it, they would be looking at some enormous state and federal fines– violating interstate trade laws, shipping contraband animals, and the US Government takes a very dim view on companies willfully ignoring state-passed environmental-protection acts. And even if you did manage to convince anyone to ignore the possibility of massive fines, the revocation of their business license, and possible jail time, no one is going to ship a live mammal for you. The shipping of animals is generally limited to insects and lizards.

So no, you aren’t going to find anyone reputable to send you a ferret. Anyone disreputable enough to do so would not be someone you would want to do business with in the first place.
