If Tamiflu makes people suicidal, why is it still being used?

I read that Tamiflu made people suicidal and I was wondering why the FDA hasn’t recalled it. Aren’t there other flu antiviral medications other than Tamiflu that don’t have such drastic side effects?

Answer #1

A little more info, I heard a rep of FDA speak and he said…currently the FDA cannot rule in or out these findings….the Japanese use far more and their testing in this area has been since 99 and measure more areas than ours….if desired, certainly the Flu Vaccine is equal or better in this area (paraphrased)

Answer #2

DO NOT TAKE TAMIFLU UNLESS PRESCRIBED BY YOUR DOCTOR.

Dear dhooni, This is the last information I have on Tamiflu: Tamiflu “Didn’t Cause Japanese Deaths” The Japan Pediatric Society has issued a statement declaring that it can find no link between Tamiflu and the deaths of 12 Japanese children who took the drug. According to the Society: The symptoms observed in the 12 cases could also be seen in other patients who were not given the drug….The group also said that it was possible that the children’s influenza had worsened a separate underlying medical condition, leading to the deaths.
