How can I become a teacher?

so recently I’ve decided what id like to do with my life. I want to become a school teacher. Id like to start out as an elementary then on to middle school. and possibly high school. Then as time goes by id like to end up being a college professor at a decent college making around 60 - 100 by the time im like 40. So… this seems like a lot of work… I have no knowledge what so ever of what I need to go to college to study… for how long… which degrees I need … if private is better than public to teach or vise versa, and if there’s a difference in requirements etc… where I can get a job after my graduates degree in I dont no what… information on salary/ retirement age … so anything else you can think of, post it, let me know what im getting myself into, is it a good idea or not?, what you would do/ instead, when I should start, im 14 now, and give me 2 good reasons why being a school teacher is worth it. kk thnx :)

what you need to do as far as what you need to study is dependent on what you plan to teacher, the state where you teach, where you’re going to school, and the level you plan to teach. if you want to know the specifics from your state, check out this site http://www.uky.edu/Education/TEP/usacert.html .

you’ll need at least bachelor’s degree (in some states a post-baccalaureate or master’s degree). if you’re teaching elementary you usually need either a major or minor in education (for B.A.) or a masters in education. for secondary education, you’re going to have to get a degree in the area of the subject you want to teach. though it’s not always the case, you may need a liberal arts foundation (even if it’s not required it’s an excellent idea to do it anyway). in college, you’re going to go through a period of student teaching which, simply put, is when you go into a school close to your college and you teach in the subject you want to teach for a certain amount of time for a grade.

as far as specific courses, you’ll almost always be able to count on taking psychology and child development classes (for the obvious reasons). you’ll also probably take math, english, and history. the only thing i can’t tell you, is how many years you’ll be going through school to achieve the requirements. after all of that you should be set for teacher certification.

you shouldn’t really rely on what the perks of the career are to decide whether or not you want to persue it. it’s only going to work out in your best interest if you do what you really want to. i’ll tell you a couple reasons you shouldn’t become a teacher: it’s not a field where money comes flying in because you have to work your way up the ladder, unless you’re a college professor. not all children will be wonderful and listen, so if you don’t have the patience, don’t do it. if teaching isn’t a love of yours and you only like the subject you teach, don’t teach because you need to be in love with what you do.

in whatever you decide, keep in mind it should be what you want to do and try to imagine yourself doing it for the rest of your life up until you retire. if you can see that, go for it. good luck =]
