how to make my boy dog tougher

my boy dog is a small breed but I thought that they try to be tough since theyre little mines dont… he turned one in june and he whines like crazy he just started to bark for real.. but how do I make him act tougher because he seems to be scared of every little thing??? HELPPP!!!

Answer #1

Accept him as he is. Each dog has it’s own personality…some shy, some spooky, some brave, some out and out aggressive…Simply taking him out for lots of walks…where he’s exposed to things will help make him braver. He has to get desensitized to things. Also, teaching them obedience gives them conficence…It makes them feel good about themselves when you give them a command, and they know what you want…

Just sounds to me like he needs to be socialized more, new people, places, and noises, NOT to be treated like a baby. A big mistake most people make who own small dogs is they treat them like a baby, Walk them on a leash and harness, take them to the park and around other people and places, let others hold them.

Answer #3

treat him like a big dog. when hes being a baby, ignore him, let him know that your not going to praise that kind of behavior. dont let him up onto your lap when hes being like that, and maybe not at all. treat him like you would a big dog because if you treat him like a baby, then hes going to act like one. IF he gets scared and trys to jump on you to hide, push him off and firmley say no, then just ignore the whining, and if he starts barking, make a loud noise and say no.
