How do you know who is for real online?

I was just thinking…like many professionals in my line of work, my entire resume is available online, multiple sites have my name, etc, etc. It’s easy for people to see it’s “me”…but, some people don’t have that virtual paper trail that connects all the dots.

How do you verify identity then? Especially with people who don’t have credit cards (or aren’t making a purchase)…?

Answer #1

Unfortunatly, I am sure as you know there really is no way to truely verify who someone is online. For example I could take someones ID, soc card, if they have any pics online, save them to my computer and I’d be set with a whole new identity for online or in real life for that matter. Lol not that I would do that, cause I wouldn’t but sadly it happens all the time. That is one of the scariest things about actually meeting people online cause not only can they change there identity they can change there whole personalitly. Unfortunatly these days you can’t always trust people based off of just there word.

Maybe you could scan your state ID and post it online with vital information blacked out of course, just the state ID number visible, with your picture. That could be verified on a state government site somehow I think. If nothing like this exists, maybe there is a way you could create it.

I’ve never been asked to verify anything more than my email address…it hardly seems secure, but then, you just need to be careful about what you make public.
