How can I stop smoking?

I’ve smoked for 7 years now, im now 18, I have been to meetings and I’ve got all the equipment to help me get started!! But I’ve stoped smokin 2 times now and failed both times!! The 1st time I stopped smoking I stopped for 4 months, then I started agen because I started 2 gain weight, when I smoke I dont eat I smoke instead, and the 2nd time was for 6 weeks an then I started again!!, I get so stressed out and emotinal!! Its so god damn hard!! I really!! Want to stop smoking 1.its disgusting!!! 2.it makes me feel sick 3.u get gammy teef 4.u hair smells and your clothes and the whole house 5.makes you unhealthy The list goes on and on but it still wont elp me stop! Anybody got any good ides on how to stop me smoking!? Monday tuesday and wednesday is fine because im busy from 8am til 3.15 pm wich keeps my mind busy and makes me forget about my craviings! Also I need something ot take my mind off the craveings!!I dotn smoke until after 12pm because I cant smoke in the morning because it makes me feel sick and dizzy an eww!!! Its awful!!! please help!! Thanks!

Girlfromga, the patch works just as it is intended too.

Nicotine addiction does not take long to leave your body it’s the habit and willpower that you need.

Like I said it’s been 7 years and I have not touched 1 since. Sure their are times when I thought to myself, damn it would be nice to have one. But common sense always kicks in seconds later and that’s the end of it.

The patch is what removed the addiction for me and it is all I took. I did not even take it for half the period that it requires.

You need to want to quit and you need to not focus so much on future effects just quit and be done with it. The only help you need is to break the addiction ( and that does not take long) the rest is mind controled.

Good luck Sophie and do not worry yourself about weight issues and how hard it is just always concern yourself with all the positive effects that will come of it.

Visit a cancer hospital. My dad smoked like a chimney since about the age of 11. He stopped completely when he was about 40, and looked really great for 2 years.

Then someone challenged him – said do you think you could have just one, and leave it? He said, “Yeah, course I could.” Famous last words. He was back on it within a day and was buying his own cigarettes again.

The cigarettes won… He died of lung cancer when he was 51.

Nicotine is highly addictive. Its really good that you want to stop, but do recognize that it isn’t easy. My husband stopped the minute we got the phone call about my dad being diagnosed… and never looked back. But don’t wait for a phone call. Do it now. Use the patch, hypnosis and all your friends to help. Stay away from smokers and the things that make you want a cigarette. You can do it :)

right I have got 20 cigs left it wil take me around 1 an a half days 2 finish this pack , my start date for qutting these mingin things will b on SUNDAY! I wil let you no how I get on!!!, I have the 24hour patches and the 16 hr patches I also have this sucky thing wiv nicotine in it, and I wil chew lots of gum!!!, im really nervous!!! any ides of what to do instead of eating? when I quit smoking? xx

I used to smoke and when I decided it was time to stop I told everyone what I was doing and asked them to not smoke around me. Maybe you should try hanging out with people who don’t smoke? Also, it was kind of easy for me, because I don’t have an addictive personality. If I say I’ll stop doin somethin I just stop. I know a lot of people have very addictive personalities and it can be really hard. I started eating when I stopped smoking and I was gaining weight. But I say, just find something else to do besides eating or smoking to keep you busy. I have a job now and I don’t eat a lot anymore, I am already losing the weight that I gained GOOD LUCK!!!

I smoked for 16 years and like you I was disgusted with the whole thing. What I did to stop may not work for many because I have been told I have a high willpower.

One morning I was driving to go get my 3 cartons of cigarettes, when I decided to pull into the closest pharmacy instead. I got myself the patch. It was in july and I was hot. I’m a big man therefore I sweat. this patch kept falling off.

How did I quite ? now 7 years without a cigarette, I took the patch on and off for 2 weeks then just never smoked again. The first 3 days was the worst, then all I had to do was kick the habit.

I smoked for awhile.What helped me stop was working out.When you smoke it relesies the dompimine in youre brain @ tells youre body to relax.working out does the same thing.Whenever I want a cigeret I just go for a walk/run.This is a verey hard habit to quit so dont beat youreself up over it.it took me like six tries.@ I still slip sometimes @ its been over a year.Just so you know the patch hardley ever works.

GO TO YOUR DOCTOR and REQUEST CHANTIX. IT’S A NEW DRUG. IT WILL HELP. SMOKING IS DISGUSTING, THERE’S NUTIN GOOD FROM IT AT ALL! I DON’T UNDERSTAND why PEOPLE EVEN PICKED UP THAT FIRST CIGERETTE?!

I smoked for a while, too. it’s hard, but once you get past the first like five days without them, it gets easier from there!

menthol fags are mingin!! they nok me sik!! I smoke lambert and butler silver, an there mingin!! ALL FAGS are MINGIN!! I’ve stoped smoking twice before but its always stress that gets me!! as my fiance is a non smoker and no body in my house is a smoker!! I should be easy!! (YEA RIGHT!!!)

I didn’t know you were a smoker, me too. And im going to quit next monday. I have to wait til after the weekend because I know drinking will get me. Its my first attempt. Besides nicotine substitutes, which I won’t use. I found that when I work out, the craving is completely gone, do some running or somehting and I guarantee you won’t want one for a while. And what im going to do this weekend to get ready, I normally smoke Marlboro reds, this weekend im going to smoke menthol, I f*ckin hate menthol, so I think that will help me.
