Not all people of religion believe a baby is held accountable for sin. . . only a few groups do that. . . . a child is innocent till they reach the age of accountability ( ‘a person who is young enough that they are not yet able to understand fully the results of his actions’ ), A biblical explanation:

  1. King David gives us a important proof in his life and actions. Because of an adulterous relationship with Bathsheba, she had given birth to a son. God, in judgment on David, told David that his son would die. David fasted and pleaded with God for the life of the son. David’s servants were so worried about him, that they feared to tell him when the child died. Yet, when David discovered the fact, he washed, changed his clothes, and sat down to eat. When the servants expressed their surprise, he responded, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me” (2Samuel 12:22-23). David knew God and knew he would be with Him. But he also knew that he would see his son there. This is an encouragement to every parent who has lost a child.

  2. Three of the gospels record Jesus scolding the disciples for trying to keep the children from bothering Jesus. In Mark 10:14, He says, “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.” I realize that Jesus used children as an example of humility in coming to Him (Matthew 18:2-6). This may partly be the case here. However, He says that of such [children] is the kingdom of God. Evidently, they are in the kingdom of God because it is made of such. This matches perfectly with the confidence of David in seeing his son.

  3. In Matthew 18:10, Jesus states, “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” The little ones have angels in heaven that always behold the face of the Father.” In Hebrews 1:14, angels are defined as “ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation.” I believe that in their childhood they belong to God. Those who die will have a place in heaven. http://www.learnthebible.org/q_a_age_of_accountability.htm

As other Christians are making it clear, the idea of ‘Original Sin’ being born into each child is not a recognisable Biblical doctrine. It’s been a big thing in the Catholic church for a long time, but I do hope that even there it’s beginning to fade out.

Along with rnealw and amblessed, I agree that a newborn child is sinless. It certainly has the ability to sin as it grows up, and if it does survive its first months and years, it is going to sin - I think we all know we told a few lies and hit a few siblings, at least, as children!

So that’s all that ‘Original Sin’ means to me - that humans have an inborn tendancy to do wrong things. It doesn’t mean that a newborn baby is sinful at all. It’s a tragedy that many parents in the past were told that their innocent children would not go to Heaven if they were unbaptised, for example. The church has done some horrible things to people with its non-Biblical doctrines.

I don’t understand how anyone can say that an infant has sinned which is not true in my religion. In my religion, we believe that infants are inicent and shouldn’t be baptized until accountibility which is age 8. Some religions might have this particular practice where the infants have sinned but, its very confusing. The lord doesn’t punnish little children and, he won’t punnish adults or send you to hell. But, again some religions believe that you’ll go to hell. In my opinion, I know that Heavenly Father loves us all and we’re his children.

Answer #4

The thing here is that you are not to believe on religion… you are to believe in God…

Answer #5

My understanding - There is such a thing as the ‘age of accountability’ - varing age at which one becomes aware of right from wrong - prior to that, like a newborn, certainly they go straight to Heaven…Hope this helps !!

Answer #6

Easy question to answer, because their delusional and have nothing better to do than to brainwash and punish people…

Answer #7

I have never heard this before. It seems a bit ridiculous to me. sorry. not to offend anyone

Answer #8

They are all about me, me, me! Ever see one hungry, they want fed NOW!

We are born into sin, but a baby knows no difference. They learn right from wrong later.

No infant goes to Sheol.

Answer #9

well my family is cathalic, sorry you cristian dudes didnt get to the natives up here first, lol

Answer #10

Everyone is born a sinner , as the child grows it will lie , you really need to read your bibles more . Until the age of accountability . The only one that was born without sin was Jesus . Yes even babies are born sinners.

Answer #11

If you believe in “sin”, which I don’t, the only way a new-born child could have sinned is in a previous incarnation.

Answer #12

“You’ve obviously never had one puke on your shoulder…”

This is too funny Toadaly. Had a good laugh at that one.

Original sin was invented to make sure people were indoctrinated from as early an age as possible. It is a completely silly concept.

Answer #13

I don’t know. I think it’s messed up too. thank goodness it’s not the truth.

my religion doesn’t teach that junk! lol. (sorry if I offend anyone, but that’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard!)

Answer #14

I agree with the age of accountability , don’t believe that it is possible to put an exact age on it, since each child is different. I believe it is when that child comes to the point in their life where they can know right from wrong, and understand who God is, and what his requirements are, then, once they come to that understanding, I believe they would then be accountable.

However, it is Gods desire to draw all men unto him.. he is not trying to run anyone off, nor does he delight in any form of sin. Once we see his requirements and know that we have fallen short of his expectations, and need a savior… he is right there, ready to accept us… Now, why on earth… do men fight him so?

Answer #15

well easy, because every body is born into sin.

I’m certain the questions is regarding infants being too young to speak or understand what God is, nor following the rules that religions adhere to. Similar to all the different races of people in the world, that have never been exposed to organized religion. But this is just another question that can’t be answered… though many people will try…

I seriously doubt if a baby girl died; that God would send her to Hell for repeatedly crying and soiling herself.

Answer #16

I dont beleive in religion either and the thing is, almost everyone is capable os “sinning” and almost everyone has done it because according to the binble, pretty much everything is a sin the other stupid thing is is that it doesnt matter what you did (murder, rape, drugs, ect) all you have to do is “repent” and want to be saved, and that makes everything ok again well no, in my opinion it doesnt.

Answer #17

I don’t follow a specific religion eaither- I believe that religious people have totally just missed the mark- its not about the words that you say and the acts that you do- its just about your relationship with christ. The baby has been born into a sinful world- but god has placed a patch in each and everyone of us to llove him as a newborn and its just what we learn on the earth that makes us turn away from him! that child is not a sinner!

god bless
