I'm doing English 20-1 (which is grade 11 ELA) and I had to read a short story. I'm confused and need help with this question, somebody please help. Okay the question is:
The red dress acts as a type of symbol in this story. Just as the narrator tries on the red dress her mother is making for her, she also "tries on" several different roles in the story. Identify these roles.
Now what I don't understand is what is a role. Role means "a character or part played by a performer" and "the characteristic & aspects social behaviour of an individual." In the story she is a daughter, student and a friend. But she also goes threw many emotions like nervous, shy, angry, embarrassed. Do you think I have to list these emotions and explain why she feels that way or just list that she's a daughter, student and friend?
The question is pretty simple but for some reason I'm stuck.

Yes, identify all of those things and explain how they tie in to the symbol of the red dress. You might have better luck looking that short story up in google or on sparknotes to see if others have a better idea-- it is hard without reading the story.
