First of all, don't say that you want to be emo. That makes you a wannabe. And second of all. Why be "emo"? Emo= losers who find the things in lives so sad and emotional. They are super dramatic. And always want to kill/hurt themselves. But let me just put this up. If they want to hurt themselves so much.. Why not die? Easier way then the "suffering" that they've been going through. Being "emo" is bs. What do you have to gain from hurting yourself and rebelling? Sure sadness is in everyone's lives but we don't obsess ourselves with feeling bad about it. So bad, that we would base ourselves around it like a couple of posuers. I personally know what suffering and pain is. But you can't let yourself sink to such a level. Do a favor, and get a life. Emos have nothing to gain. And they have no purpose for what they're doing. They are only overdramatic sadists.
Oh, and to everyone who wants to argue with me. Go ahead, I'll be waiting. Try telling me a REASONABLE excuse for being a goddam emo. And tell me something that it's actually good for.
OH' DEAR LORD! All these people's opinions are horrid. I'm 'said' to be emo. Ugh, I guess that means I'm emotional, but that doesn't necessarily mean I cut (That doesn't mean I don't tho...) But anyways, all these people are being very stereotypical, which is not a good thing. I personally hate being classified. But I'm just going to anwser the question.
Being 'emo' means your a emotional person. You have strong emotions, and when a certain cause comes up that appeals to you, you feel very strongly about it. Dressing 'emo' is different tho. If you want to 'dress emo' you wear a lot of black with random neon colors. (I <3 neon colors.) Anyway, Cut your hair strangely, preferably in a asymmetrical fashion and dye it un-natural colors.
And BY THE WAY, the people who say 'being emo is not a good thing', who are you to judge? I don't walk around judging random people, because that is WRONG. (Ever heard of it?)

emo people are sensitive they cut their wrist because they think blood/red is a sign of life, and mostly becuase they have had a bad childhood like I mean about their parents so they sometimes cut themselves becuase of their life expierences.
I'm sorry but emo isnt a good thing to be but another word for emo and is different from cutting yourself is kinda like goth!!!
if you want to dress like them they wear unique clothing and they just dont like to blend in

ok never say your emo, dont change overnite or people know you r a wannabe... 2 months is still 2 fast... be friends with other "emos", go to HOT TOPIC... buy clothes but when you go there dont wear anything preppy... you dont have 2 cut. Its just a sterotype. well for the emo style wear 2 belts... a shirt and skinny jeans...and some otherthings (im 2 lazy 2 rite em). also most emos have black/dark hair. They use straightners for straight hair. maybe I mixing up emo with scene but go to tons of concerts and stock up with band shirts.Most emos have side bangs. get them if you dont. and search wikihow for more help.

First off, stereotypes defy social policies. Assumptions don't get you far, so don't label yourself.
Second, the term "Emo" in a music genre. It's not an excuse for a lifestyle or a psychological state.
And third, you coming onto the internet, looking for ways to call yourself Emo, just shows how much of a poser you are.
You don't just pretend to be someone you're not. You're trying to fool everyone else and lie to yourself.
That shows no personality or dignity at that matter.
So, take my advice, and stop pretending.
well first, theres no real general attitude of emos. the stupid media thinks that emos are depressed and cut their wrists and bleed black. it a load of rubbish. well skinnies (girl tight ones) are a must, usually a lot of black but it is not a must. a studded belt a long fringe that covers half of your face (hair is cool with lots of breight colours like blue, pink, purple, red is uber emo and so is purple) thick rimmed glasses if you have glasses aviator sunnies (thats more scene but it doesnt matter) converses or vans or other types of canvas sneakers.
Emo is a stupid lable. If you want to be 'emo' go and dress in black and cry or something. But why not just be yourself, dress how YOU want to dress, and dont lable yourself. For a start, its more fun to be who you want to be, instead of a mindless clone of someone else, and secondly, if you pretend to be someone else, or try and fall into a sub-category people aren't really liking you, but someone you're completely oposite to.
Don't be emo, don't be prep, don't be punk, don't be hippy, don't be boho, etc. Be YOURSELF, which might be a mix of everything.

It doesn't matter how you dress. It doesn't matter how you look. All that matters is how you FEEL. If you are emotional and sad. If you are a dreamer and wish for things that give you a heart ache when you think of them because you don't think it is possible for you to get. THAT is emo. THAT is what we're about. NOT dressing black. It is not what we display ourselves as because that can always be a mask, covering up ouselves.

I do not support this but many of my friends are iam not you have to evolve into being emo first sit by your self if you are in school become the weird kid walk with your head down and complain a lot look at others as children and pity their childish ways do not wear yellow, purple, green,or blue then listen to metal wear black clothes and don't care about anything and then only then can you dye your hair
I think "being emo" can mean differant things in the 21st centry. It can be a fashion statement, or and actual "emotion". I was "emo" for a while, I dressed like I was feeling, and I was in deep deep depression, the brightest color I wore was red, and everything else was always black.
