How should I let this guy down without revealing my sexuality?

I’m gay, but I’m not yet out to anyone. This guy that goes to my school was talking about how he needed a girlfriend and, since I’m oblivious, I had no idea that he was hitting on me or hinting at me in any way. I’ve never had a boyfriend before for obvious reasons, so give me a beak. :) Anyway, before I could blink he asked me out on a date, and he’s really sweet and I don’t want to hurt his feelings. So, before I could stop myself, I told him I’d think about it. I filled him with false hope, basically. I don’t want to tell him I’m gay because that would fuck up my coming out process, at least the way I have it planned. And I don’t want to seem like I’m making up excuses. And I sure as hell don’t want to date him. Any advice

Alright, just relax… Realize that straight girls tell guys they aren’t interested ALL THE TIME. Just go up to him, tell him he’s VERY sweet, but that you aren’t interested in him. If he asks why, tell him you only said you would think about it because you didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Tell him you were trying to be nice and think of a way to say it without being cruel or embarassing him. Basically, tell him the truth just short of admitting his biggest problem is the thing dangling between his legs. :-D
