Glass Houses and their features

The proverb ‘People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones’ is confusing for a anumber of reasons. Why should there be stones to throw in the glass house anyway? Does the saying mean that it is okay to throw other things around e.g. catapults, arrows, bullets, children? And wouldn’t the saying be better if the following line was added ‘and they shouldn’t because they might break the windiws? Your opinions, si vous plait.

It looks like someone’s feelings have been hurt, and coming from a person whose barely 8 years my elder you’re not exactly a wise old man.

And if this is what you consider a big argument I dread to dream about what a Sunday afternoon chat would sound like.

dwb91, it was a stupid question. Relax man just having a laugh, wouldn’t get offended by an issue like that. I was actually trying to sound like a wise old man and make a fool of myself. Ironic is how I like it.

Answer #3

I think you are trying far too hard to break down this simple saying, for the sake of trying to sound smart.

*Maybe so, as long as you don’t throw them at their heads you can have good clean fun without the murder rap.

Answer #5

I would expect better from a Canadian. But then again, you’re a child of the nineties. Keep out of the big arguments my lad you don’t have the minerals.

Answer #6

Benjamin Franklin wrote, ‘Don’t throw stones at your neighbors’, if your own windows are glass.’ Makes a little more sense, but I like it the old way. :)

Answer #7

Perhaps they are shaking the stones they find rattling in their head and use those to try and break the walls. For only ones with rocks in their heads would live in a glass house.

Answer #8

Yes that does make more sense. And anyway, is it thenperfectly alright to throw stones at people OUTSIDE of glass houses? Seems wrong doesn’t it? Or maybe not?

Answer #9

Maybe so, as long as you don’t throw them at their heads you can have good clean fun without the murder rap.

Answer #10

Maybe it’s ok to throw stones at people who live in stone houses…:)
