That is not known. Freddy Mercury had aids before there were easy-to-use aids tests. And the genetics of his version of the virus were never analyzed. Bio-technology wasn't that advanced in the 80ies. Today, laboratories could easily find out with a blood sample. But back them, the entire disease was still quite mysterious.
I know...he was shy. I watched one of his interviews and he seemed very antsy...like he was trying to rush the interviewer out. He did have a sense of humor about himself though. :3
