Are Daddy Long Legs deadly spiders?

I was told that Daddy Long Leg Spiders were the most deadliest spiders in the world but there teeth are curved in so they cant bit you and if the do it wont puncture your skin..Now is that true? Are Daddy Long Legs The Deadliest?

Answer #1

Daddy Long legs are very deadly. There was an elderly couple in my area a few years ago that was found dead one day. they both had a cup of coffee in frount of them. The spider had gotten into there coffee pot and brewed with there coffee. When they took a drink of there coffee they died instently. But Granddaddy long legs can not bit you.

Answer #2

They are NOT deadly. The name Daddy Long Legs refers to 3 different species. The true spider has very weak poison that produces at worst a mild short term burning sensation. One is also called a harvestman and is neither poisonous nor a true spider, but it looks like a very long-legged one.

MYTHBUSTERS on the Discovery Channel covered this myth during their first year.

Answer #3

Yes daddy longlegs are very poisionus, but there fangs are to fragile to penetrate human flesh..Daddy longlegs are not actually spiders…If you want more answers google Daddy longlegs…I just left that site has a lot of info…

Answer #4

/wrong thread. My bad.

Answer #5

They have a spider in Australia that is called a Daddy long legs and it is a true spider But like Bimjob said it’s venom is very week. http://faunanet.gov.au/wos/factfile.cfm?Fact_ID=85

Answer #6

In the animal class Arachnida, there are several lower level divisions called Orders. Scorpions are in the Order Scorpiones, spiders are in the Order Araneae, ticks and mites are in the Order Acari.

The creatures most correctly called daddy-longlegs are in their own separate Order which is Opiliones.

Answer #7

Didn’t we already cover this subject? They are harmless. http://spiders.ucr.edu/daddylonglegs.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholcidae This one explains the most probable beginning of the myth. http://faunanet.gov.au/wos/factfile.cfm?Fact_ID=85

Answer #8

yes.. they are very deadly! but I’m not sure about deadliest… and the’re mouths are so small they can’t open them wide enough to bite ya.

Answer #9

Do you have proof of this or is it hear say? If it was a couple of years ago it should be well documented. Such as http://www.snopes.com/critters/wild/longlegs.asp And the Irukandji jellyfish is considered the deadliest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irukandji_jellyfish it is a member of the box jellyfish family

Answer #10

Haha,Not the ones here.. They live under my sink and stuff, haha they dont bite they just eat other bugs theyre harmless.

Answer #11

Then, if the Daddy Long Legs is not a spider what is it classified? Why is it not considered a spiderd. Now I have heard they live underground, how do they get there?

Answer #12

wow you already got a lot of answers. well I’m also going to answer by saying: yes they are one of the most venemous spiders in the world. but don’t worry, their fangs are too weak to break throught human skin, so they can’t hurt us.

Answer #13

im glad they arent because 1 crawled on my hand once and I started freaking out! I hate most insects!!! I know spiders are harmless but im really scared of them!

Answer #14

haha okay… so I did some googling…

and up at the top where I said they’re deadly… yeah… I’m an idiot…

they’re harmless.

Answer #15

I heard somewhere that if you eat one it’ll kill you, but they can’t piece your skin with their fangs. Don’t quote that as gospel though, try checking out a Wikipedia entry on it.

Might be good to note that what some people call a “daddy long legs” is not always the real thing- a crane fly looks like a daddy long legs, only it has 6 legs and wings (so it’s just an insect), and the harvestman (which is a member of the arachnid family, but is not actually a spider).

Answer #16

They are not spiders. They are not deadly. Don’t believe everything you hear, look it up on a science website.

Answer #17

heckerz no daddly long legs are probablly the most harmless spiders that there is the dont bite they have no venom.

Answer #18

Daddy Long Legs are harmless. They do not even have venom. Black Widows are the deadliest spiders. Here is a website on Daddy long legs to learn more http://spiders.ucr.edu/daddylonglegs.html
