I have 10 month old baby boy. Here lately I've noticed that he's had a runny nose, but with no fever what so ever. It usually begins at night time when he starts to cough and it almost sounds like a seal barking. At first I never really thought anything about it until it started waking him up at night. I have thought about maybe giving him a breathing treatment before bedtime to kinda calm these symptoms down. Does anyone have any advice on what I could try at home first before I take him to the doctor. I would like to maybe see if I could treat this at home and if all else failed then I would take him to his doctor. Thank you very much ~ Tasha ~
It does sound like croup, which is a virus, so there is no antibiotics for it. You can us a Humidifier, which can be delivered by a cool mist humidifier. Warm steam, by turning on all of the hot water in the bathroom, including from the shower and sink, close the bathroom door and holding your child as he breathes in the steamy, humidified air. If you have a nebulizer, that will help too. Some docs say to take the baby out (bundled up of course) on a cool night for a walk. something about the cool air helps them. Hope everything turns out ok. I know how it feel when your baby is coughing and there isn't much you can do for him.
