Compensation for Brit Soldiers, who agrees?

ok, this is going to cause some uproar amongst Brits,(maybe?), but this whole compensation for Brit soldiers is annoying. Whilst getting ready this morning, I was listening to the radio. On the news it mentioned how one Brit soldier got 150,000 pounds compensation for having his leg blown off or summat in Iraq. Well why should taxpayers pay for this, when he is in the Army. The soldier is not even fighting for his own country, and what do you think they did in WW1 and WW2, expect compensation for every soldiers injuries? As for the Government now doubling the compensation rate, this is beyond a joke, ok fair play, about the conditions they live in. But saying that, that is a soldiers job to expect injuries, otherwise whats the point in them receiving compensation? Wahey! We should all sue the Government and turn into “America”…its * stupid!

150,000 is quite a bit. Though it is a leg and who would want there leg blown off…NO ONE. Say he only broke it, than the money he is getting is quite a bit. Being in the U.S. Military I’d say the medical bills should be paid for by the government and he should have the pride and should have known of the chance of being sent elsewhere…the signing of the contract! Whether anyone wants to admit it or not but a person is a person whether from Europe, Africa, Middle East, the Americas and being injured in battle we’re all family and we should talk to our enemys however hard that is. Once a new President comes in the US than other countries will see an improvement on the US and foreign affairs… With the situation with the guy and his leg heck give him the money but you better start dishing it out to others too and that will get exspensive. A quote we use everyday on the job is “you shouldn’t get paid extra for a job that you already are supposed to be doing” meaning fight not only for you and your country but for others freedoms, yet fight not with weapons but with knowledge and have your own pride in helping others. That alone should be pay enough… good grief to those family’s who have actually lost people they should be the ones getting paid. Still money doesn’t bring a loved one back.

Taxes should help people who are not happy not make those (happy to be alive) even more happy leaving a great divide.

my husband was in the army. and yes, he did sign up for the army, to defend britain, not everywhere else, which is where he was sent incidentally.

I think that, yes, in a full on was situation, you will have to expect casualtys. but honestly, do you know how much money a soldier gets paid? it’s cr4p! and having been an army wife, being shipped aroun from here to there, 100’s of miles from family and friends, is not worth the money you get…and as a wife, if you have kids, you can’t get a job, there’s no child care…and you can’t rely on hubby.

I think you don’t understand the state of the british army, they need to encourage more british people to join.

if your american, I notice that the americans seem to hang their flag patriotically… when my husband was in the army, and the world cup was on we were banned from hanging the england flag because it ‘might offend the carribean and figian soldiers’ - so clarify, we were NOT allowed to hang the england flag, in england, when the world cup was on because it might offend the soldiers who had come from different countries to be in the british army…

so no, I don’t think it’s too much money. the lifestyle is cr4p, the conditions are cr4p and the british don’t even like britain anymore. being in the army in britain isn’t like the states, my hubby met loads of american soldiers, their conditions were much better, they had more pride in their country, and more importantly, they are valued in the states, whereas the attititude towards soldiers here is very negative…

so they have to ask themselves ‘what do I fight for anymore, when I can’t even hang the flag of the country I’m supposed to be fighting for?”

yep I had a good rant about how Americans get to be patrotic, etc… in another discussion. I agree with you there, but personally I think 150,000 for braking a leg is ridiculous. Taxpayers pay far too much, we may as well pay to breathe x

and also, they arn’t fightin for this country, do you think the soldiers get a choice about where they go? or when? no, my hubby was sent ot oman when our baby was 7 weeks old, and again when he was 12 moths old. you have to give one years notice, and when he developed type I diabetes he had to leave, no medical discharge, they just gave him sh1t jobs until he had enough and left…

Answer #5

yeh see your point, but that much money? come on, he knew what he was getting himself into, they all do chick x

Answer #6

I would submit, he is fighting for his country, fighting terrorism there instead of in your back yard - I think it’s the citizenrys job to support and be grateful for the sacrifices made for them with many making the ultimate sacrifice - my point of view.
