listening to Metal has changed who I really am

I do believe that music has an effect on us… I know because I changed and became agressive. And I was pretty much forced to dress normal and my parents took my Ipod and mp3 player from me. But I guess they have reason to do that because I pretty much got F’s. :(

Music has the potential to change people, but it also has the power to cause people to realize things about themselves and who they really are. Of course, we make conscious decisions towards changing ourselves because of how the music we love influences us.

You should look into how your mom is referring to these changes; not all changes are necessarily bad. In any case, you should just tell her the truth. A genre of music, regardless of her opinion of it, has entered your life in a way that you find enjoyable and relate to, and despite the way it’s influenced you you’ve made your own decisions that led to the changes she sees.

Now for my advice to the asker of the question -

Just explain to her that music can’t MAKE you change. YOU have to change yourself. Your the only person who can change yourself. No one else can make you be something. We ALL go through SOME kind of changes in our lives, it’s just part of life. Metal is a type of music, it’s not like if you listen to it it’ll change you. And Slipknot isn’t the only metal band out there. There are COUNTLESS others.The main thing is be yourself and never change for ANYONE. Hopefully this helps you out, if you need anything else let me know.
