Can we please drop the label talk?

I’m asking nicely, I’m not trying to judge people or anything, but I think the whole label thing needs to be dropped. I don’t think people should sterotype. Putting people into categories because of; what they look like, their religion, their hobbies, ect. is just wrong. I think we need to try our best not to sterotype and always remember that everyone is unique in their own way and that sterotyping is hurtful.

I found this on the internet, and I think people that label should read it. No, I didn’t write it…

I’m SKINNY, so I MUST be anorexic I’m EMO, so I MUST cut my wrists. I’m HISPANIC, so I MUST be dirty. I’m ASIAN, so I MUST be smart. I’m NOT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, so I MUST be a loser. I’m ARAB, so I MUST be a terrorist. I SPEAK MY MIND, so I MUST be a btch. I’m OVERWEIGHT, so I MUST have a problem with self control. I’m RELIGIOUS, so I MUST shove my beliefs down your throat. I’m an ATHEIST, so I MUST hate the world. I’m DEMOCRAT, so I MUST not believe in being responsible. I TAKE ANTI-DEPRESSANTS, so I MUST be crazy. I’m a GUY, so I MUST only want to get into your pants. I’m a GIRL, so I MUST be over-dramatic. I’m INDIAN, so I MUST own a convenient store. I DON’T LIVE WITH MY CHILD, so I MUST be a dead beat parent. I’m ATHLETIC, so I MUST be stupid. I’m PREPPY, so I MUST shun those who don’t wear Abercrombie & Hollister. I’m a TEENAGER, so I MUST drink and do drugs. I’m a CHEERLEADER, so I MUST be a whre. I’m a PUNK, so I MUST do drugs. I’m YOUNG, so I MUST be naive. I’m RICH, so I MUST be a conceited snob. I WEAR BLACK, so I MUST be a goth. I’m BLONDE, so I MUST be a stupid ditz. I’m WHITE, so I MUST be a nagging, steal-your-money kind of girlfriend. I’m BLACK, so I MUST own a gun. I’m PRETTY, so I MUST not be a virign.. I’m NOT A VIRGIN, so I MUST be easy. I FELL IN LOVE WITHA MARRIED MAN, so I MUST be a home-wrecking whre. I’m a TEENAGE MOM, so I MUST be an irresponsible slut. I GOT A CAR FOR MY BIRTHDAY, so I MUST be a spoiled brat. I HAVE STRAIGHT A’S, so I MUST have no social life. I’m REALLY INTO MY MUSIC, so I MUST be scene. I DYE MY HAIR CRAZY COLORS, so I MUST be looking for attention. I’m INTO THEATRE & ART, so I MUST be a homosexual. I’m a VEGETARIAN, so I MUST be a crazy political activist. I HAVE A BUNCH OF GUY FRIENDS, so I MUST be fcking them all. I HAVE A BUNCH OF GIRL FRIENDS, so I MUST be gay. I WEAR WHAT I WANT, so I MUST be a poser. I’m GERMAN, so I MUST be a Nazi. I’m BRAZILLIAN, so I MUST be a slut. I WEAR GIRL PANTS, so I MUST be a homosexual. My BOYFRIENDS OLDER THAN ME, so he MUST only be with me 4 sex. I WEAR LEG BRACES, so I MUST be “crippled” I have FRIENDS OLDER THAN ME so I must do drugs and drink

When you label people it hurts and can destroy peoples lives. So don’t do it. You dont like people labelng you so dont label others.

haha I’ve seen this so many times!.. it’s so silly and dumb. society sucks, and it’ll probably stay like that forever! no one should be labled.

Answer #2

I think labeling people lablers and are therefore wrong/annoying/mean/usless and other such likes, are in facts labels themselves.

Answer #3

labels are SO annoying. Its frustrating being categorised and stereotyped just because of what you wear or believe in.

I think the word ‘emo’ has to be the most over-used word tbh. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve been called it because I listen to certain bands.

We label everything, your confusing labels with preconceived notions. “I’m SKINNY, so I MUST be anorexic” isn’t a label its a preconceived notion. “I’m skinny” is a label it describes what it is. If you said “I’m a human” you would be describing what you are, something factual that cannot be argued with ie. a tree is a tree a lamp is a lamp. If you were to say “That is a lamp so it must shed light.” that is a preconceived notion. Because while it is in fact a lamp, it may be broken and give no light. So you are against preconceived notions, not labeling. If we were against labels then nothing would have a name and you could not refer to anything and have anyone understand what your talking about. Let’s take this one step further, “That is a fire so it must be hot” now here is a factual preconceived notion that is in fact factual. And based upon this notion we wouldn’t stick our hand into aforementioned fire. So preconceived notions are not bad either, it all depends on the context of it’s use. If I said “That girl has blond hair so she must be stupid” That is also a preconceived notion, but not necessarily factual. Basically I would just be stereotyping, possibly causing someones feelings to get hurt. Some stereotypes are good just as some preconceived notions. It’s all relative in the eye of the beholder. So in the end your just asking people to stop being mean. Which is truly a noble thing to ask, although I doubt very seriously if there could ever be an end to people acting mean spirited. “I think we’ve all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically.” (Captain Jack Sparrow)
