Hi to all!!
I am new to this forum so be patient (haha.) I have an audition at university of miami for musical theater in 15 days and I still haven't picked out an uptempo song!!! (I can learn a song in one day though but I need it soon.)
Does anybody have any suggestions of songs that do NOT come from: hairspray, aida, wss, music man, or any overly used musicals?
Thanks!!
PS I am trying to contrast it to "lonely house" from street scene.
You shouldn't use any songs from music within the last five years(Broadway or Off-Broadway) or anything by Andrew Lloyd Weber. (but for college auditions... they'll usually let you slide)
'Steppin' Out with My Baby (From 'Easter Parade')', Irving Berlin (I think that's up tempo... if it's the song I'm thinking of.) I Can See it (The Fantasticks) Finishing the Hat (Sunday in the Park with George) Not A Day Goes By (Merrily we Roll Along)
Let me introduce you to some must-haves for musical theatre majors. http://www.musicalheaven.com - you can find information and a synopsis for just about any show. MidiNotate Player or NoteWorthy - Both midi programs. You can download midis and show them as sheet music that you can print for auditions. http://www.hamienet.com - The best place to find musical midis. The Singers Musical Theatre Anthology (for tenor) -there are many editions and volumes to this... but it's a must have. Other nice resources: http://www.stageagent.com http://www.broadwayworld.com
