I'm assuming you're talking about the battle that happened in 338 BC. Essentially Philip II of Macedon was the leader of a large empire, which included Greece. At some point the Greeks saw him as a threat and allied to overthrow him, namely Athen and Thebes. Phillip (the father of Alexander the Great) decided to declare war on Greece and moved in to attack them, leading him to Boeotia and the Battle of Chaeronea.
It depends on which one you're talking about. There was a Battle in the city of Chaeronea in both 338 BC and 86 BC.
