It depends. If you have been coughing a lot, you may have just burst a capilary. If you are coughing up mucus and its streaked with a bit of blood, its probably nothing to worry about. If there is a lot of it, or if there are droplets of blood in the mucus it may be more serious. If you are at all concerned, you should see a doctor, they tend to take coughing up blood pretty seriously, and would most likely give you a chest x-ray.
