Simplicity of building a structure…at that time, they didn’t have complicated tools, equipment, etc…a child can stack blocks and make sure they don’t fall over if you arrange from biggest to smallest :) Same concept was applied (and figured out) by many when trying to figure out what the biggest thing they could build was.

After all, isn’t architecture a p!ssing contest of “mine is bigger than yours?”…witness the competition, still, of what place / city / country has the world’s tallest building.
