come on, this isnt hard, draw a picture of a field with a barn in it… then cut out the barn (I mean literally draw this out so you can see it)… what is the area that you’re left with? the total area of the field, minus the total of the barn right?

area = length x width

so… area of field (length x width) - area of barn (length x width) = area left over
