What's a good way of eradicating self importance?

The kind of obsessive “it’s all about me” self importance. For example, the guilty conscious kind of self importance – people do things because they either feel sorry for you, don’t like you and pretend to do so out of not wanting to hurt your feelings… That kind of self importance?

I think it really depends on the situation and what kind of self importance is being put into place. For the whole guilty conscious kind, in my opinion, the only way to do so is to find some kind of inner peace in the situation and gain a more healthy level of self confidence.

I mean.. I know we’re talking about less of the it’s-all-about-me talk, but to some extent it is in the beginning. You have to think positively about yourself before you can shut out that others think as negatively about yourself as you are right at the time.

Once you’re a little more confident in yourself, you have to work on accepting things. It’s tough, but when you have the negative self-talk going on, you do have to shift the focus on the other person. You have to think ‘They are here because they genuinely want to be.” Then you have to accept that if they are in fact there for any other reason, that it’s not really your problem. It’s their problem, as it is their choice to be there to some extent either way. You are not forcing them to do anything. You aren’t dragging them anywhere – they are doing things because they choose to.

Finally, you just have to work on appreciating it for what it is. I’m not saying you don’t appreciate it, but instead of hanging on the details, just push them aside and say ‘thank you’. That’s the best anyone can do.
