why does a higher life expectancy rate lower the population growth?

If people live longer and are more educated how does can that stabilize world population?

Answer #1

In general, if you look at countries where the population is living longer and is more educated, the population tends to have fewer kids. It is in the developing world where they have more kids because odds are a few are likely to die, and they are needed for farm work. However, I dont know if it stabilizes the population. After all, it leads to an older population, which is a heavy burden as an older population is not as productive, and in some countries it is leading to a population decline.
