Good question. Honestly, the easiest way for me to handle the addiction, was to use the patch systems. It allowed the nicotine addiction to be gradually lessened.
However, it's more the psychological addiction and physical acts that hurt most people. For instance, if you're used to lighting up when you get in the car... every time you get in the car, you'll crave one.. same with after meals, etc. What you need to do is come up with a plan... an alternative to those 'habit' smokes. Some people use a lollipop. I bought some of those fake cigs that has a minty flavor when you puff them. It allowed me to have something between my fingers and something to puff on.
You can also try modeling clay or something else that is pliable. If you have something in your hand to 'fiddle with' that helps too. As far as the after meal smokes, try licorice. A single piece of licorice will help the habit of something in your mouth and hands.

Being around smoke makes you want to smoke a ciggie. it only takes 72 hours for your body to stop craving the nicotine. after that its all in your head. A friend of mine bought sugar free candy to eat in the car and after a meal. Cut back on your alcohol. people smoke more when they drink. I quit but started again after a nite of drinking a smoking. When I'm not around people who smoke or I'm at home (at my mothers where I can't smoke) I dont crave one until I eat. another friend of mine quit 2 years ago by using the gum. I"ve also heard you can get a pill from the dotcor which works great. Dont try by cutting back on the amount of cigs you smoke a day. that only makes it worse. I tried it to. Cold turkey and a lot of determination. Remember, its all in your head
Hi you are having trouble smoking...well same thing with my dad he used to smoke smoke smoke thinking nothing would happen and now he has emphesema. When I was sixteen My friend Rachelle smoked and break out(pimples) all the time until she died unexpectedly. Smoking can be enjoyable but it is your life you are gambling with. It's all fun and games but what do you think can happen 5,10,20 years from now. It kills you slowly and you crave for it but it's decieving you and ending your life slowly. I may have troubles in my life and it gets hard but take some cigarettes smoke it and as you smoke the last think this will be my last cigarette for the remainder of my life and that it won't control me anymore.Well you might think wow it's just cigarettes but those same cigarettes can put you in a box lowering six feet under.
hello I tried all that stuff nothing seemed to work for me so I wish you the best of luck ...I started taking well butron to quit smoking I am only on day 3 so the side effects I have gotten is bad taste and restless at night but I am trying to hang in there so if the patches and gum dont help then try well butron but give it a fair chance

How can I quit smoking cigarettes?
Me and my mom are quitting in a week after my finals and the last few times I tried, I lost my mind. I always tried the cold turkey method but im starting to think that maybe the gum or something would be better. Hmph.
