What is the going rate for realtor fees?

I am going to buy a house for my wife. My realtor is offering to help me buy my house for 5%. She told me that the regular rate was 6% and I am getting a good deal. My buddy is telling me he got his around six months back for near 4%. Is there a rate I should ask for or are the fees from my realtor okay?

Six percent is standard, however, there are some companies that do transactions for flat fees, and others that rebate you a portion of the fee, etc, which can work out to even less than four percent on the real estate sale. Definitely shop around.
