A change in government does not bring about a change in society, that is obvious to anyone who studies politics. The fact that Obama and Clinton are the Democratic frontrunners while McCain is the Republican tells us that American society has changed a lot politically in the last decade.

I am honestly not sure what the next five years will bring. I think economically, the United States will experience recession and then pull out of it, like what always happens. As far as the war, I don't see a withdrawal from Iraq, although I do see a scaling back of forces over the next couple years.

Sadly, things like education, health care reform, and environmental policy probably won't change in the next five years.

If the republicans gain the presidency than nothing will change in America and that would be a bad thing.

I think it will be bad considering America is still fighting a war over oil and for more personal reason.. power. I don't think their economy will suffer but I think that their goverment will not change therefore no changes in their society will be made.

Yes, I can see America changing. We are already in a recession and most of our jobs have gone overseas. We are getting more & more muslims in this country who are paying off government and then the government is letting them have their way. In our churchs, schools, etc People need to wake up, America is going down the tube.

5 years from now, wow. This is the kicker, gas prices will be over 5 dollars a gallon by then, and with that everything else gets more expensive. While the average Joe is still making the same amount of money. So there will be a crazy amount of economic strain. Troops will still be in Iraq. Health care and education will be the same. But we are going to have some serious problems on our hands. Seriously, I am actually scared to see what our country will be like in 5 years, get ready for the riots

American troops will still be in Iraq regardless of who is elected though I expect far more if McCain is elected than if Obama or Clinton gets in.

The effects of Bush's distasterous economic policies will continue to dog our nation for a long time.

I don't believe that all hope is lost. After WWII we were further in debt relative to our GNP and we did recover from that. I do fear that things will get worse before they get better though.

Our prosperity is largly lubricated by cheap oil. As long as we allow ourselves to be dependant on other nations for our financial wellbeing we will have no national security. We are at the mercy of other countries.
