well first you have to make sure that the place that you get the piercing at is steril. then when you get it done eat ice chips to help with the swelling. you won't be able to eat anything hot for a while. make sure you wash out your mouth EVERY time you eat. you don't want food in the wound. and you won't be able to change the bar for a few weeks after... but if the person you get it pierced from is a good professional, he'll tell you what and what not to do.
good luck

Follow the advice of the piercer and once the swelling goes down all should be ok BUT its highly likely that you may damage your teeth in the long run. Playing with the bar, by running it along your teeth, will file them down and occassionally you will bite on the ball and risk crackiing your teeth.

Both myself and my daughter have mishapened one of our front teeth and I have 3 cracked teeth in the top of my mouth.

Doesn't happen to everyone but there is a risk.

Hi I got my Tongue pierced in Feb and love it.
Actually was very suprised as it really didnt hurt at all ( I was really suprised), although what is painful / uncomfortable is when it swells up.

Any normal mouthwash is a good idea to prevent Infections and it keeps your mouth clean and fresh.

I went out especially to buy Baby food, ice cream , not necessary !, any soft food will do ,If I remember rightly I ate using one side of my mouth .

My boyfriend had a tongue piercing and it was swollen for like 4-5 days he could not eat anything spicy or hot because it was painful to him. at first he could hardly talk and then he had to be rinsing his mouth like every 3-4 hrs. or after he ate with something like scope mouthwash. it was a pretty good experience but then a doctor told him that he had to take it off because it could damage his sensory nerves and cause some type of a cancer. so to quit risking it he took it off.
Hope you make the right choice.

My tongue has been pierced for 3 years.
It didnt hurt at all. it stung a little, but not hurt.
Make sure to not eat anything hot for at least a week. suck on lots of ice to keep the swelling down. Dont try and play around with it for the first week. you need to let the swelling go down and the barbell drop to where you can move it and play with it.
use mouthwash after EVERY single meal the first few weeks and you should be good to go.
I havent had any problems with mine.

honestly I dont have a tounge piercing but harley is right about the whole teeth thing...I was considering getting my tounge pierced but I completely changed my mind about it after my mom (who works w/ the ADA) filled me in on what happens when you get a tounge piercing and honestly I really dont think you should take the risk in destroying your teeth but it is completely up to you and if you do decide to get 1 just take care of it and try not to get the bad habits of playing with it...hope this helped
