You aren't the only performer with this problem. Even some celebrities have the same problem and even after decades of performing it doesn't always go away.

Nerves aren't all bad. Sometimes the excitement and adrenaline even help you break through and have an incredible performance.

When I was a musician I meditated and it seemed to help. I'd recommend giving this a try. For me auditions were the worst; I never got that nervous for performances but auditions were such a pressure cooker! By my 3rd year as a music student I felt like I finally had things under control. Earlier I completely folded on a few juries and auditions due to nerves but by my junior year I always seemed to do fine.

A very controversial approach to this problem is beta blockers. Some performers are prescribed these drugs so they will not experience the physical responce to performance anxiety. Like I said this is still a controverisal practice.
