Is pine/cedar bedding bad for hamsters?

I have read before that both pine and cedar are bad for hamsters and can lead to respiratory infections and liver diseases for the pet. When I went to the pet store, I was looking for a bedding that will absorb the odor better and read on the back of the pine bedding that it is actually safe and absorbs smells. Now I am not so sure if I should use it…

Answer #1

Yeahh, both can be very dangerous because of all the dust that can get in their lungs & whatnot. You should try Carefresh. It’s a safe bedding & comes in different colors which is pretty cool. :)

Answer #2

I think it messes with their respitory systems. I never really had a problem with it but thats what i’ve read several times.

Answer #3

That’s the one I use and it gets very smelly. I’m looking for a wood shaving one now, if I can find one that’s safe :/

Answer #4

i use bedding thats made from wood pulp or recycled newspaper for my rabbit because that type was messing up her respitory system.
