Will hamsters get stressed and die from other pets?

Well I really wanted to pet a hamster but I have 5 cats and 2 dogs and a few fish and turtles. my father say I can't pet a hamster because I already had dogs and cats. If a hamster see or hear a cat or dog they will got stress and die. Is it true? because I want a hamster so badly!

well if you have 5 cats 2 dogs some fish and turtles you sound spoiled!

I had dogs and cats and they didnt get "stressed" about it. But they are hard to keep in their cages! I once had two of them and they both would dissapear over night! The next day I would find them somewhere in the house. Like once I was sleeping and it was on my bed! I was like AHH! Lol. They are kinda mean towards eachother too. if you get more than one.
