You can do it on photoshop, but that program is very expensive. They do have picture editing websites such as

lunapic.com picnik.com

Well… technically speaking this is the general way in photoshop but the general processor can be used pretty much the same way in most other image editors (GIMP’s a really good one that’s free).

What you can do (what I do) is copy the sections of the image that you want to stay colored. You copy them with a lasso tool or the general selection tool by drawing it out. It won’t have to be a perfect cut out ‘cause any extra color around the image won’t really be noticeable in the final version of the image.

After you copy a piece, for example a tee shirt on a guy, paste it in a new, blank, window. This will be your ‘scrapbook’ for you to use later.

So you use the editing program to convert the image to ‘gray scale’ which is a color filter that eliminates all color.

It’s easy to find in your image editing suite’s tools or options. Just look for something like a ‘image converter’ or ‘color chooser’. Anything like that will have the option to go to gray scale in it.

Ok, after you have the sections of the image that you want to stay colored in the ‘scrapbook’ window and you have your original image B&W you can go ahead and paste your scraps on top of your B&W image. You might have to undo and try again to get that perfect position, just keep at it.

So that’s a real rudimentary way to do it and a great way to familiarize yourself with the copy and pasting abilities of your edior, not to mention the color options.

Message me if you need any clarification or more tips.
