Suggestion -- instead of papier-mache, use bandages and medical plaster, the kind that is used for making limb casts. You will be able to get a much tighter adhesion to your face, so it will follow the contours and curves much better. It also dries in a fraction of the time of paiper-mache. Just remember to use Vaseline on any part you intend to plaster so it won't stick to hair.

If medical plaster is proving hard to come by, use plaster of paris. If it's good enough for molds of tire and Bigfoot tracks, it's good enough for you.

My roommate in college once did an entire body cast out of bandages and plaster. She sat it in our apartment for months, and it was realistic enough to be made of solid creepy.
